Formula Drift Round 2 was filled with excitement, nerves, questionable calls (but when isn’t there), and battles that felt like they would never end. It was hot, and i mean real hot. No matter how much sunscreen you put on, it wasn’t going to help. Renting a golf cart was probably the best idea for the weekend. Road Atlanta is huge, and to get from the Paddock to the track, or from the Paddock to grid was insane. Up and down hills in that heat wasn’t happening. I must say Atlanta fans might be the best fans of the Formula Drift series.
In the first round of the Top 32 we saw Mad Mike push start his car to beat Rapper Dan Savage (which is apparently illegal), Daigo failed to advance past the first round again, and Tanner Foust was also knocked out. After advancing to the final 16 drivers, Aasbo took himself out with a terrible mistake, which had major championship implications. It opened the door for a lot of drivers to gain points. Odi Bakchis would take advantage of that and win Round 2. He went up against Ken Gushi who had a chance to win it all for the first time since 2005, but failed to do so. Ken Gushi and Chris Forsberg had an epic battle which went OMT two time before Gushi won.
Stay tuned to a Driver feature on Joon Maeng’s BMW Z4, as well as Brandon Wicknick’s S13.
